Household Recyclable Waste

The year 2019 saw the announcement of two new developments in recycling in the the Principality : simplified sorting and the extension of sorting instructions.

With the simplification of sorting instructions, the blue bin for Paper, Magazines and Newspapers was eliminated. This waste is now to be deposited in the yellow bin.

The extension of sorting instructions means that all household PACKAGING now goes in the yellow bin.

Find all the explanations in the Mag du Tri.

The contents of the yellow bins are sent by SMA. to the SMED sorting centre located in Cannes-la-Bocca and operated by Paprec. This recently renovated centre is one of the most efficient in Europe.

The Sorting Centre separates waste by material using mechanical, optical and manual processes before sending it to various recyclers, mainly in Franceand Europe.

The Sorting Centre is open for visits by appointment. For any information, contact the Waste Prevention and Recycling Officers at 8000 20 40 (free call).

For glass, thirty containers in the Principality are equipped with the Cliiink system. When using your mobile app or card, each piece of glass packaging deposited in these containers earns you points. These points can be used to get discounts in local shops or to make donations to charities.

The glass collected is then taken to the Ecolvetro sorting centre in Italy. It is sorted, cleaned of impurities and reduced to cullet before being delivered to glassmakers, where it is remelted to make new glass bottles.
